42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.’ 44 [r]Then they will answer and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?’ 45 He will answer them, ‘Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’ 46 And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
The scriptures are clear to what is expected of us. The question that most often arises and we seek the answer to, is but How can I Make a Differance? The answer is simple be the person that God has called you to be in this mixed up and tormented world. Reach out with compassion to those who are in need. Your simple attempt to help will not change thier situation right then and there but we can give hope because that is what our FAITH is all about. There are thousands of individuals out there single and married that are with out work, without a roof over thier head or no idea where thier next meal will come from. We here at St, Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church have for the past 20+ years made an effort in one way or another to reach out to those in need.
The St. Joseph hunger and shelter that was housed in the lower level of the church on 15 & Reid in Lorain has now been moved to better assist and provide assitance to those in need. This ministry was initiated by a dedicated and convicted deacon of Lorain, who made this his pastoral project while in formation for the permanae Deaconet. What stared out as just a way to try to help people in need, turned into a full time ministry.
